Candidates are invited to apply for the permanent full-time position of Unit Manager for Extendicare’s Vista Park Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The successful candidate will be responsible for and have the following qualifications:

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Management and Nursing team, the Unit Manager will:

• Coordinate, implement and supervise the day to day operations of the nursing unit in pursuit of the facility mission, values and goals. Exercises delegated authority for Resident care and planning
• Coordination of Resident Admissions, Quality Improvement & Risk Management, Human Resource Management
• Provides effective nursing team leadership and development, ensuring that all nursing team members have a clear understanding of and shared commitment to quality care delivery and outcomes
• Conducts regularly scheduled nursing team meetings; ensures timely and responsible decision making through delegation and accountability
• Plans, develops, implements and evaluates accurate resident assessment and care planning in collaboration with team members; responds promptly to resident concerns; ensures follow up and resident /family satisfaction
• Coordinates Resident care conferences as required
• Responsible for the recruitment, selection and ongoing development of nursing staff
• Monitors attendance, initiates corrective action; responsible for managing labor relations issues including grievances; responds promptly to personnel concerns; ensures satisfactory follow up and resolution
• Maintains nursing supplies and inventory
• Monitors and reports nursing service CQI processes to the QA Team monthly.

Qualifications:

• Current licensure by CRNM or CLPN required
• Effective leadership, organizational and relationship building skills essential as are effective communication and team building skills
• Ability to analyze and problem solve complex resident and staff situations within the multidisciplinary team is essential
• Knowledge of computerized software and Resident Care Management systems is an asset
